Almost 35 km south of Florence, on an elevated plain in the broad Arno valley, travellers will find the small medieval town of Castelfranco di Sopra, a military embattlement established by the Republic of Florence in the 13th century. Today, the pretty town has a population of around 3000 inhabitants.
